In this workshop, we will cover:

  • Basic Plant Identification
  • Safety Guidelines for Collection
  • Preserving and Storage
  • Herbal Preparations

Join Naturalist Alan Russo for a day of discovering the Wild Edible, Medicinal and Useful Plants of North Carolina. This workshop will focus on the traditional uses of common North Carolina Plants for food medicine and utilitarian uses.

The first part of the day we will be in a classroom setting studying Plant ID, safety, collecting, and preserving. We will also cover herbal preparations, including, Teas Infusions and Decoctions, Infused Oils, Tinctures, Salves and Skin Creams. The second part of the day we will go on a plant walk and talk about the plants we find along the way.

Dress for the weather, bring a notebook and pen, and prepare for a fun day of discovery!

About the Instructor

Alan Russo was inspired by Tom Brown of Tracking, Nature and Wilderness Survival School Fame. He has studied Chatham County plants for many years. Alan’s special interests are the historical and traditional uses of plants.
