Sweet Potato Tasting & Cooking Class

Sunday, February 15th @ The Plant, Pittsboro (google 547 Industrial Park Dr. Pittsboro NC)
Sweet Potato Tasting starts at 1:30pm
Sweet Potato Cooking Class starts at 3:00pm
Thought to have been cultivated in tropical South America 5,000 years ago, sweet potatoes have long been an important and beloved food of the southeastern United States. April McGreger, of Carrboro’s Farmer’s Daughter and Farmer Doug Jones will guide us through half a dozen varieties of sweet potatoes (most of which Doug grew for us at Piedmont Biofarm) and offer tastes of each variety.
After the tasting, the sweet potato exploration will continue with a cooking class with April McGreger. April is the daughter of a sweet potato farmer from Vardaman, Mississippi, the self proclaimed “Sweet Potato Capitol,” where she competed as a young girl for the title of the Sweet Potato Queen. To put it simply, this gal knows her way around a sweet potato. She will demonstrate the sweet potato’s amazing versatility through a range of savory and sweet dishes, taking you way beyond your mother’s marshmallow topped casserole.
The tasting is $15 per person and the cooking class $25 per person. You can sign up for both for $35.
Tea and coffee will be complimentary and you invited to bring a bottle of wine to share. Space is limited and registration is required.
