Gary Phillips is a businessman and poet who does a little shaman work on the side; he was once a Chatham County commissioner. He keeps an office in Carrboro and lives in a dirt house in Silk Hope with his wife, Ilana Dubester. Ilana is a Brazilian/Chathamite immigrants’ rights activist, currently spending her days as the Executive Director of El Centro Latino in Carrboro (www.elcentrolatino.org).
