Top of the Hill Pepper FestivalOriginally created to prevent a national chain restaurant from dominating downtown Chapel Hill, Top of the Hill has quickly become the premier destination restaurant and social crossroads of Chapel Hill – a mingling place for graduate students, faculty, town residents, tourists, undergraduates or anyone lucky enough to find themselves in the southern part of heaven.

Our menus have something for every taste, featuring delicious appetizers such as Polynesian Calamari and Franklin Street Nachos, fresh and crisp salads like the Baja Chicken Salad and mouth-watering entrées like Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Goat Cheese Ravioli and French Quarter Jambalaya.

We’re also the proud winner of over 35 local “Best of” awards including, “Best Restaurant in Chapel Hill”, “Best Outdoor Dining in the Triangle” and “Coolest Place on Franklin Street.” The awards are nice, but what really matters is giving you the best time of your life. We hope you’ll come and join us soon. Cheers!

pepper festival sponsorAt Carolina Investors Mortgage Group, we pride ourselves on providing superior customer service and creating satisfied customers. We work hard to satisfy the mortgage needs and exceed the expectations of our customers.  We rapidly respond to new opportunities made available in today’s dynamic mortgage markets.

As a result, the requirements of our mortgage customers are consistently met through mortgage underwriting flexibility and delivery of unique mortgage programs. We often identify niche mortgage programs that are essential to satisfying individual mortgage customers needs.

pepper festival sponsorPiedmont Biofuels‘ mission is to lead the sustainability effort in North Carolina through the development and production of clean, renewable fuels.

One of the things we do is make fuel.  We collect used cooking oil from food service establishments throughout the region, bring it to our plant in Pittsboro, and turn it into a clean burning fuel for our Coop members.  This has a nice “round trip” feel to it.  Our members use our fuel for motive power to get them to the restaurants that provide us with the stuff we use to make fuel.

Larry's BeansChapter 4. LIFE IN THE SUSTAINABILITY GROOVE

“Once you start doing stuff to make the world better, it becomes addicting,” says Larry. “As I learned more about sustainability and climate change, I realized how much building use and energy can make a difference, so we started meeting with engineers and designers about how to lighten our footprint.” “Step one was cutting open the length of our roasting plant’s roof and installing a massive passive solar clearstory to let sun shine in. Next, we put in super-efficient spray foam insulation and zone heating (to focus just on work areas). Then, we took our administrative offices and installed solar water heating panels and put in a radiant heat floor.” To save water, Larry installed dual flush toilets and two gargantuan rain water harvesting tanks, which are used to provide water for the bathrooms. Improvements to keep Larry’s footprint light are continuous. Here’s our ever-changing list.

JY Visuals photographyJY Visuals is the way that I (Jon Young) see the world. Six years ago I picked a film camera out of my parents attic and today I can’t believe it: I get to take pictures, help others, and I’m excited everyday about the work that I’m doing.

Of course there have been some detours; I was almost a product designer, and then a mechanical engineer, and yes even a philosophy major (mmhm), but I made it through. I fell in love with people and their stories and with photography and graduated with my Bachelors in Photojournalism from UNC Chapel Hill.

I believe in investing in people and their potential in life, so when I’m not holding a camera, I work with the Community Empowerment Fund, a non-profit that I helped to start back when I was a student. I’m thrilled that my photography enables me to continue my efforts to grow and build the community around me.
Contact me, I’d love to get to know you.

Weaver Street Realty pepper festivalLocally-owned since day one and committed to protecting our planet, Weaver Street Realty has helped folks buy and sell real estate since 1982. We’ve helped new farmers find land. We’ve helped intentional communities get started. We’ve helped countless families and individuals to make important life transitions. And we’ve learned that every single client has a different set of needs and goals. We encourage our clients to dream big and to act with conscious intent.

Country Farm and Home SupplyCountry Farm & Home Supply’s story starts in the early 1950s when the store opened as the Farmers Exchange.  Farmers would bring their grain here to be milled and rail cars would bring fertilizer, lime and coal for the farmers. In 1987 Southern States purchased the Farmers Exchange, and six years later, my dad purchased the store, naming it Country Farm & Home Supply.  Although the hammermill is long gone and the only remaining hint of the railroad is the old trestle out back, we’ve worked hard to preserve the bones of this old feed store.
