creating a community garden
The Abundance Foundation set out to solve some local foodshed issues and through the years and many meetings and conversations it became apparent that the best way to get fresh local food to more folks is through community gardens. Easier said than done! There are many different variables that make a community garden a success. You need a willing and eager community. You need a small plot of land that has sun, deer fencing, water and good soil. You need a small group of people to get it going.
We are embarking on our first community garden with Habitat for Humanity and the good people of East Cornwallis neighborhood in Pittsboro. We’ll keep documenting the progress so that more and more gardens can begin.
