childrens tour annual report 09
The Abundance Foundation had a fantastic year educating kindergarten through university students on sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, vermiculture, biodiversity, local economy, conservation and waste reduction and green building. A very special thanks goes out to the Alces Foundation and the Rolander Family Foundation along with Whole Foods in funding for this program.
We had public school groups, home schoolers, girl scout groups, cooking camps, a group from Istanbul, Turkey, University students and a few that just came by with their parents. We toured 330 children this year (doubled from last year!) and expect to increase that next year as we ramp up our Children’s Sustainability and Energy Tours. Classes went home with a jigsaw puzzle to put together of a local art rendition of our Eco-Industrial Park by Phil Blank.
Our goal is to evoke critical thinking and create problem solvers in these children and young adults. Ultimately they will become environmental stewards.
