The Abundance Foundation

Alternative Local Economy

We operate in a system that supports monopoly and dis-enfranchises children, the poor, handicapped, and our elders. A sustainable economy can not be based on a monetary economy where individuals will do any thing, including destroy the environment to get the money they need for the basic necessities of life. Monetary economies are based on scarcity where Alternative Economics are based on Time exchanges which are abundant and can be created by any one. We are developing school to farm programs where students can work off their community service hour requirements.

Our farmers markets can make it difficult for poor people to buy good locally produced food. We have created, in our region, a way that allows individuals, who depend on food stamps, to exchange their food stamps for an alternative currency that is accepted by the farmers, so they can buy fresh local foods.
