The Abundance Foundation

2009 Outcomes

The Abundance Foundation has a lot of diversity and we like that.  It makes it interesting.  And sometimes it takes awhile to explain what we do.
So, here is a quick look at accomplishments for 2009.  Thanks for reading.

Sustainability Workshops 2009
(a focus on D.I.Y.-do it yourself)
We held 17 workshops and reached 320 people in a deep and meaningful way.
They went home with skills and knowledge to spread even further.

Children’s Sustainability and Energy Tours
Over 400+ kids came through the Eco-Industrial Park and learned about sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, water conservation, biodiversity and environmental stewardship.

First Friday and Every Sunday Tours
We partner with Piedmont Biofuels and Piedmont Biofarm and offer free tours to the public throughout the year.  We attract everyone from Economic Developers to Agricultural Extension Agents to someone’s Great Uncle that is in town for the holidays.  We estimate these tours to bring in over a thousand people throughout the year.

Fiscal Sponsorship
The Abundance Foundation throws their 501c3 umbrella over other organizations or programs that fit our mission.  It allows us to extend our reach and helps others reach their goals.  In 2009, we partnered with 5 organizations by helping raise funds, administering, having workshops together, holding events together, and sharing resources and ideas.  For a list of these organizations, click here.

Pecha Kucha
Pecha Kucha deserves a paragraph all to itself.  Abundance held 4 Pecha Kucha Nights which are a format for getting ideas across in a fun and succinct way.  10 Presenters get up in front of an audience and with 20 images and 20 seconds on each image, they present an extemely fascinating concept that the audience has probably never thought about.  We partner with the international Pecha Kucha from Tokyo Japan on this.  For more info, click here.

Events
The Abundance Foundation has a knack for throwing events and in 2009 we held 6 Major Events, Mardi Gras 2009, Feed the Farm Festival, TRK Fest, Burrito Bash in Drag, Puppet Intervention, The Amazing Pittsboro Pepper Festival.
Our events further our messaging around local food, renewable energy, water conservation & quality,  community and environmentalism.

Green Building Model
In partnership with our landlord, The Abundance Foundation built a model 10×12 “Office of the Future” in 2009 complete with off grid PV panels, local building supplies and we workshopped the solar part of it, and we blogged about it.  Modeling a different way of building!

We did a couple other things, but that is pretty much it in a nutshell.
