10 Things
Harvey Harman states it very simply:
10 Things One Person Can Do for Local Food Security
1. Grow some of your own food, even if it is in containers on your windowsill.
2. Eat and encourage wild foods of all types. Plant edible landscapes.
3. Buy locally grown foods. Boycott places that don’t buy locally.
4. Find a way to share your knowledge about local food with others.
5. Save seeds. Start with one variety. When you can do that easily, add the next variety.
6. Eat as many varieties of food as possible. Eat what is in season and Eat Fresh.
7. Spend time in a Developing Country for perspective and to see examples of how a more localized food system might look.
8. Be politically active to support good policy and counteract the strong influence of large companies with vested interests.
9. Spend time outside everyday and invest in your own education about food, health, and nutrition.
10. Share meals and food with others. Breaking bread together, sharing a meal together, is a sacred and community enhancing activity.
